Tips || Instructions for a bad day

Bad days, we've all had them. It's easy to forget that whatever you are doing today will (most likely) be over tomorrow.

I just discovered Shane Koyczan, he is a spoken word artist. And I think his work is truly amazing. The first thing I heard was this piece called "instructions for a bad day", and I thought to myself; well, you better bookmark this because this will get you through your off days.

So this brought be to an idea, why not write a blogpost about what gets me through bad days?! And maybe help some people out ;)!

Forgetting all about the bad day you're experiencing to me is remembering all the positive aspects of life. I made up a list, as a reminder for myself, on how to stay positive and get through tough days.

1. Music. Music is key too everything in life, whether you're experiencing the best day of your life or the worst day in the existence of your time planet earth. Try to surround yourself with uplifting music. The best kind that works for me is corny 90'/00' music.

2. Friends. An important big thing is to remember your friends. Go out for a drink, go shopping or just simply stay home and talk or watch a movie. My friends tend to be the best therapists and I'm so grateful for having them. If you don't have that kind of support I suggest going online, there are tons of forums/websites with people that share your interests and would love to hear about your day.

3. Creativity, is my third point. I love doodling, I know I'm horrible at it but it helps me get my mind off of things. Whether it's music, art, writing or something else that could keep you busy: just do it!

4. Spirituality. If you have a religion you could pray. I view it as a type of therapy as well, it gives you the feeling that there is more out there than just this world and this life you're living. Another thing you could do is meditate. During my last internship I discovered Lee Harris and his words are so soothing. He has this "7 days of peace" audio project that focuses on a different aspect of your life every day of the week. And the best thing is: these sessions are only 10 minutes long! Another audio that you could listen to is called "Mental Health" by Yrsa Daley-Ward,

5. Yourself. Last but not least, take care of yourself. Don't ware yourself out or push yourself to the limit. I tend to forget myself when I'm experiencing a bad day. Go take a nap if you need to, that project that's due soon can wait a couple hours. Do something that makes you happy and don't think about the consequences. Take time to think, be selfish and remind yourself that it's okay to have  a bad day. Because everybody has them once in a while and everybody has really good ones as well. Remember: This too shall pass.

Oh and please remember to breathe!

OOTD || Eid el Fitr

It's weird how time flies, (the Holy month) Ramadan has passed and it's a day after Eid el Fitr (celebration of the end of Ramandan)

I've spent the day hanging out with my entire family, including screaming baby nephews and gossiping aunts ;)! I've also eaten everything that came even near to my eyesight, so I think I made up for a month not eating.

Eid is also about dressing in your best/ most favorite clothes. So for me, that meant: shopping! I've been obsessing over big kimono's that make me look even smaller than I am.

What I wore:
Kimono- H&M €19,99
Blouse-  H&M €14,99
Denim washed jeans- Pull and Bear €17,99
Stacked little gold necklaces- Primark €2,50 (?)

I hope you liked my Eid outfit! If you celebrated Eid please let me know what you wore and how you celebrated this blessed holiday!

Games || Kim Kardashian: Hollywood

Oh dear, what is actually happening with my life? Tonight I reached nr.1 a-list on the Kim K game, ad let me tell you: I'm actually quite ashamed. I mean, the time and effort I put into becoming famous in a virtual world is really to much to be good for you.

The first time I heard about the game was on tumblr (of course). I saw a couple different people make posts about going to photoshoots, Simon's calls, Kim's calls and what a bitch Willow Pape is. And me being as curious as I am told myself "why not?!" and gave into the hype. Well, big mistake Lem, big mistake.

The game is about making it in Hollywood, so you start out at the bottom of the ladder. You start out at a regular clothing store where you have to work for a grumpy boss. But guess what? Kim Kardashian is in town and needs your help with a fashion emergency. And that's how a beautiful friendship starts (me and Kim go way back now). She then invited me  to a photoshoot where I modeled as well and then hooked me up with an agent (what's up uncle Simon, sorry it's an One Direction reference as well) But then the game villain appears: Willow Pape. She accused me of trying to steal her boyfriend, which I wasn't because he wasn't thát cute. So I did what my mother told my would be best: ignore the shit out of her. I also got to go out with some guys, which were totally mean during the game!!

I flew around from LA to NY to Vegas and more, did some photoshoots and appearances and now I'm the nr.1 A-list with Willow biting the dust with her E-list status and me not knowing that to do with my life any more. And if any of you wondered how much money Mrs. Kim Kardashian West made by this silly little game of hers? $85 million!!!

Tag || Get to know me!

I was wondering if this blog actually had a face, if you actually knew the girl that’s typing this right now. I never actually introduced myself as a person. So, I think it’s time for a “Get to know me” tag! I found this random cool tag that seemed interesting to do:

1. What’s your birthday?
I was born in 1993, 26th of September I think around 6 AM?
2. How tall are you?
I’m really short, I’m 5”1 or 157 cm. I have mixed feelings about being short, it really depends on the day haha!
3. Where are you right now?
I’m at my internship’s office, I've been working a 9-5 job here for almost 4 months.
4. Are you in a relationship?
Nope (I've been mentally dating a cute ice cream man if that counts!)
5. How would you describe yourself in 4 words?
Loyal, listener, funny, adventurous
6. What’s your guy/girl crush?I love Matty Healy (The 1975), Alex Turner (Arctic Monkeys) and Jesse Rutherford (The Neighbourhood) I call them the holy trinity ;)! I also LOVE Zayn Malik(One Direction) because look at him omg.
7. What would you like to do at this moment?
I’d love to be doing nothing but stare at the blue ocean from a white beach.
8. What’s your goal in life?
My goal is to be happy, to be successful and have a life I’d be proud of. My goal is to travel the world and meet a lot of people. And to find love. And start a family.
9. What are you afraid of?
I’m really claustrophobic.
10. Nail polish or lipstick?
I love lipstick, everybody who knows me know my nails are a hot mess!
11. What’s your favorite season?
I love spring, I love everything about it. It’s not too hot or too cold, baby animals and the entire vibe.
12. Do you ever want to get married?
I’d love to get married one day, I just need to find the right guy! A lot of my friends already found the one, and it just seems like I need to be patient a bit more.
13. Are you a health-freak?
Nope, I’m into fast food and lazying around all day. I know, I know it’s horrible. But I don’t gain any weight and I think running to catch my trains in the morning is enough exercise.
 14. Do you have any tattoos or piercings?
I have my ears pierced, if that counts? I don’t have any tattoos.
15.Do you wear glasses?
I own glasses and should wear them regularly, but I rarely do. I have really bad eyes.
16. What’s your favorite food?
I LOVE Italian food, I love lasagna, pasta and pizza. I NEED to visit Italy soon for the real experience. I also LOVE ice cream! If you check out my "100 happy days" challenge on instagram you can see that ice cream really brings happiness into my life!

17. What’s your favorite perfume?
I've been obsessing over “Signorina” from Salvadore Ferragamo. It's a really sweet and feminine scent.
18. What’s the last thing you bought?
Does food count? I’m always buying food lol. I just bought my dinner, it was a pasta salad with little mozzarella balls, tomatoes and basil! Clothing wise was a basic black maxi dress at H&M for €14,95 and make-up wise, I think was a mascara from Catrice!
19. What were you doing at 8 AM today?
I was sleeping! I slept in really late today, oops.
20. Are you a heavy sleeper or are you always up early?
I LOVE sleeping, I always try to stay in bed as long as possible. I hate getting up early and being active.
21. Are you a morning or evening person?
I really hate mornings, I can’t function before noon. I always need to start my days off slowly.
22. What movie do you want to see right now?
I reeeeeally want to see The Fault in Our Stars, it’s almost coming out and I’m so ready! I’ve been preparing emotionally for months. I’m actually rereading the book right now.
23. What do you want to have accomplished in 10 years?
I want to make a list of places I want to go to in the world, I’d like to have visited almost all of those places in a decade. I hope I’ll have the career I want and I hope I’ll finish my degree in a couple years.  I want to have my own little family in 10 years. Wow I would be 30 in 10 years! Scary!
24. What’s your favorite thing about yourself?
I think I love my sense of humor the most. Body wise, I think would be my figure.
25. Do you have any siblings?
I have a younger sister (17) and a younger brother (12).
26. What does your life look like on a day-to-day basis?
I have my internship 5 days a week, so I spend a lot of time at the office. I love it though, because my colleagues are awesome and my boss is really nice. We always have the weirdest conversations. When I get home, I get some dinner and talk with my family. After that catch up with one of the shows I’m following and browse on tumblr. I sometimes have school on Fridays, so I can catch up with my friends and go shopping or go out for a bite to eat. Saturdays I work at a supermarket, to earn some extra money. Sundays is my day off, I like doing absolutely nothing on Sundays.
27. Do you have any pet peeves?
I hate it when people leave my door open! I can literally wake up from a deep slumber if somebody comes into my room and doesn't close the door. And another thing is when people talk really loudly in the bus or train or something. I get it: you're excited to see each other again, but really? Is screaming loudly at each other for an entire hour helping anything? I have plenty more, but I don't think this needs to turn into a rant ;)!
28. Are you a spiritual person?
I think I am, I'm a Muslim and I also believe in meditation (thanks to my internship for introducing it to me!). Mental health is really important to me so I try to do as many mental health awareness exercises!

29. Favorite artists of the moment?
I LOVE music, at this moment I listen to a lot of The 1975, The Neighbourhood, Arctic Monkeys, Lana Del Rey, Panic! At The Disco, Keaton Henson, Lily Allen and of course One Direction! I'm also really excited about Ed Sheeran's new album "Multiply/x". I've also heard Justin Bieber's new record is amazing so I need to catch up to him as well. I'm always looking for new artists to listen to, so if you have any recommendations please let me know!
30. Are you into poetry?
Yes, I recently discovered Nayyirah Waheed. She has the most beautiful way of forming words. You should definitely check her out!

I guess that's all for now, I'll keep adding to this though. If you want me anything personal, go ahead ;). Or if you want to share, even better!

Lots of love,
Lamyae

TV Shows || RuPaul's Drag Race

I stumbled upon RuPaul's Drag Race through Tumblr (how would I else ;)). When I used to think of drag queens, I would think about some ratchet men with some cheap wigs and some eye shadow on. How ignorant right?

The first thing I found was a gif of Willam saying something really sassy, and I was a bit confused because I was under the impression that I was looking at a beautiful funny woman. So I started researching more and found out that Willam was from RPDR season 4. I started watching the show and I was hooked!

I never knew drag queens could be this talented. They dance, they sing, they act, they sow, they do stand up and sometimes all those things at the same time! With make up painted on perfectly and the most natural lace-front wigs looking really fishy (feminine)!

But you have so many types of drag, it's not only the feminine queens that become successful! Season six starred with a queen that rocked beards, pregnant bellies and Pinocchio noses (all hail Queen Milk, am I right?!), a NY club kid queen that rocked another head (ornacia!) on top of hers, and a spikey body suit!

The top three were: Adore Delano, Bianca Del Rio and Courntey Act. A young punkey Queen, A comedy seasoned Queen and an Australian superstar!

I loved them all but Bianca stood out for me, she was always on top of her game and it paid off because she won!

And remember: you are born naked, and the rest is drag!

Lots of love,
Lamyae

Apps || Depop

I've always loved bargains. I love getting amazing clothing items on sale and making outfits out of them. I'm also a fan of second hand clothing, it doesn't sound as glamorous as when people call it "vintage" but to be honest: who cares what you call it, they're cheap clothes that still look amazing!

I recently watched a vlog that Rhiannon made about an app called Depop. This is an app where you can buy and sell items that you don't use anymore. You just snap a picture of the item you want to sell and it'll appear in your followers timeline. And the cool thing is: you can buy stuff from bloggers like The Blonde Salad and more!

I'm not selling anything yet, but be sure to check out my account and I'll be checking yours out as well. I'm always looking for fun stuff to buy and maybe to sell in the future.

Lots of love,
Lamyae

Music || 8tracks

Everybody knows I love music, and I love discovering new music. I love playlists with songs I absolutely adore. What I don't like is knowing which song comes next. Maybe it's just me, a weird tick or something. I hate having pattern in my playlists, that's why I always have my shuffle on.

I used to own this old shitty MP3 player, you couldn't see which song came next, and you didn't have a shuffle option. And I used to listen to it a lot, so my brain always knew which song came next. Till this day I still catch myself anticipating a song that used to be next on my old playlist.

I recently discovered 8tracks, and I think it's absolutely brilliant with a tiny bit of annoyance with it. I discovered so many great artists and songs through 8tracks. The annoying part is: you can't go back to a song and you have a limited number you can skip. I love the element of surprise, I love not knowing what comes next. Am I the only one that thinks like this? Maybe I'm just really weird.

I'm listening to this playlist right now:

Did you know 8tracks before this? And what is your favorite playlist on there?

Lots of love,
Lamyae

Life update || rambling on about everything and nothing

It's been a long, long time. And I've tried blogging, I really did. You should see my drafts, I have the weirdest ideas and when I start writing them they don't seem that interesting anymore. So what about a life update?

My last blog was about my make up addiction, which I still do have. But I'm okay with it now. And I'm still a mess at handling money, which I still find terrible. Nothing much changed, right? Well, I cut my hair? If that counts. It's already a bit longer (I'm so bad at this blogging thing, oops). I cut out the ombre and styled it a bit with layers, I'm already in for something new. Anybody have any suggestions?

I've started out a new internship at a place called Spotzter.nl. It's an inspiration platform for anything special. Want to eat at a special restaurant? Need a really interesting gift shop? Want to go to a festival nobody has heard of yet? Spotzter is the place to find all that.
I really like it here, I like exploring and finding out special places.

I think 2014 is the year of concerts and changes. In the last month and a half I went to The 1975 ánd Panic! At The Disco. Both gigs were soooo good! I'm in love with both bands and I had the time of my life with my friends.

The 1975 was in Amsterdam at the Paradiso. It was a gorgeous venue, with a really cool ambiance. Because I'm really tiny I didn't want to stand in the crowd and see nothing of the boys. So we stood in the balcony, which was really cool because we could see literally everything and dance freely without people bumping into you. And the best thing was: Matty Healy (lead of The 1975) actually waved up at me a couple of times. He probably wouldn't remember that right now, but I do.

Panic! At The Disco was two weeks ago in Tilburg at the 013. One word: amazing. They were really good, they played old and new songs. Brendon Urie's voice is everything to me. The light show was stunning and complimented the feel of the music perfectly. The venue felt like a small arena, with the wide stairs going down to the stage.

I've started the 100 happy days challenge on Instagram, everyday I have to find something that makes me happy for the day. It sounds easier than it actually is, but I've learned that you can find happiness in the smallest things. I'm super cliche, I know. So check out my instagram to see what makes me happy, and maybe start the challenge yourself!

Well, I'll probably blog again in 3 years? If I'm lucky. Ha, no but really. I'll try to blog regularly.

What were the main events that happened to you in the past months? What are you looking forward to doing?

Lots of love,
Lamyae

Confession || I'm a make-up addict

I confess: I'm a bit of a make-up freak. I freak out over new collections and new products and new brands. I spend most of my money on food, make up and clothing and éven more food. Literally. I don't save up. I think I need help!! So with the help of my loyal friend mister Google I stumbled upon a very handy 6 step program to being to over the make-up addiction. (Well any addiction really.)

Step 1: Admit there is a problem
-Well, I guess I'm doing that right now by writing this blogpost? Have I already started the road to recovery? I don't think so
Step 2: Are you willing to change?
-Yes, obviously.
Step 3: Look for a new "hobby"
- I can pick up art? Or writing, or more blogging?
Step 4: Therapy (?!!!!)
-I really don't think therapy is needed (for this "obsession")!!
Step 5: Try another approach if this doesn't work
- Do I actually have to look for professional help then?
Step 6: Talk about it
- The thing is; I constantly talk about it. My friends are as obsessed as I am. And the online community of beauty bloggers, vloggers and enthusiasts aren't really helping.

If these steps really work? I really don't think so.

I worked out my own kind of system. I put together the items I use daily and put them separately from the other items. I'll change these products up every month. Because I started school again this month I wanted my look to be as natural as possible. Nobody likes a cake face at school, right. September's products are very natural and light. I feel like keeping it natural all the time with a rosy cheek and a bold eyeliner.
I'm loving all these products so much right now. It doesn't look like I'm wearing that much actually.

Oh and am I the only person that wishes flower crowns were socially acceptable? This would be the perfect festival look, such a shame the festival season just passed! Oh well, next year.

Products used:
L'Oreal Volume Lashes Excess Mascara
Miss Sporty Waterproof 24h Pump Up Booster Eyeliner
Boujois Paris Concealer Stick #73 Beige Doré/ Golden Beige
Catrice Sun Glow Matt Bronzing Powder  #030 Medium Bronze

Nivea Pure & Natural Eye Shadow #13 Vintage Rose
Catrice Prime and Fine Illuminating Base
Catrice Ultimate Moisture Fresh Skin Make Up #020 Sand

Does anybody have more tips on managing money and addictions?

Lots of love, Lamyae

Vacation || I'm officially back!

When you go on holiday to a specific kind of country I think you should dress the part. It's a respect thing and i guess it's cultural as well. You have to look at the people around you and see how they dress.

I've spend almost a month in Morocco, which is a Muslim country and culture is very important. I am a Moroccan Dutch girl, so I grew up with all the values that are implied in that country. You can't go out wearing booty shorts and a tank top, no matter how hot it is. It sounds weird, but I didn't even want to wear outfits like that. It's not normal in those countries to wear revealing clothes so when you do, you can expect to get all the (negative) attention on you.

I had a great time catching up with family and just exploring! I loved the beach, the food, the cute shops, the people and i really had a blast. A vacation is really what I needed and that's why I haven't been blogging (as well as other social media outlets) as much as I want to now.

Here are some of the outfits I wore:
Outfit #1:
  • Caramel colored top- Vero Moda (2 years ago, price unknown)
  • Maxi Skirt- The Hague market, €20,-
  • Brown gladiator sandals- Van Haren, price unknown

Outfit #2:

  • White patterned top- H&M, on sale €10,-
  • Aqua Maxi Skirt- The Hague market, €15,-
  • White flip fops- Birkenstock, €40,-
  • Little black fake Chanel bag- Moroccan Souk, 100 dirhams (€10,-)
  • Black Henna Tattoo was done by a really nice lady on the boulevard for 30 dirhams (€3,-!)
Outfit #3/4: Traditional Moroccan Caftan and Djeleba, these were custom made and worn on special occasions like weddings, baby showers, party's and holidays.

Some pictures of the gorgeous Moroccan Rif Mountains and landscape:

It's almost back to school for me, so the normal life is coming back again. It's my final year so I really need to focus. I'm going to try to blog more often and start interacting with other bloggers, because I really do enjoy this!

Please comment what you did over summer break and tell me about everything you did!

Love you lots,
Lamyae
